David Blacker was born in Colombo and has lived almost all of his life in Sri Lanka. In the early ‘90s, he served in the SL Army, seeing combat for the first time as a nineteen-year-old rifleman at Elephant Pass.His debut novel A Cause Untrue was shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize in 2004 and won the State Literary Award for Best English Novel in 2006.In addition to his advertising career in Colombo, where he works as an art director and creative director, Blacker is a published commercial illustrator, and has worked in Europe as a graphic designer. He is also a prolific blogger, and his blog The Blacklight Arrow remains one of the most popular military/political websites in the Sri Lankan blogosphere. Currently, he is working haphazardly on a second novel.
