Anura Gunasekera is an accomplished planter, writer and as he refers to himself – “an infrequent journalist”, who was educated at St.Thomas’, Mt.Lavinia, and commenced his planting career in 1968, with the Standard Tea Company, then a prestigious Sterling company in the George Steuart Agency and till 1975 worked in several high-grown tea estates in the Nuwara Eliya district.

After the nationalization of plantations in 1976 he worked for the Janatha Estates Development Board ( JEDB) as an Estate Manager and concurrently, as the Deputy to the Regional Manager, JEDB, Nuwara Eliya Board.

He left active planting in 1979 and following a brief assignment with the Hayleys Group, rejoined the George Steuart Agency in 1982, first as the head of its Wekande, tea packaging and warehousing complex and, subsequently, as the head of Human Resource and Administration of the company.

Concurrently, he was also a consultant to Kotagla Plantations Plc. In 1995 he returned to Hayleys and was appointed to Kelani Valley Plantations, from which he retired in 2011, as a Director of Dipped Products Plantations, the plantation management company. Since then he has been involved in an assignment with the MJF Group- Dilmah, in a number of plantation industry related initiatives.
