We are delighted to welcome Herman Gunaratne to the 2018 Fairway Galle Literary Festival.
Malinga Herman Gunaratne counts, altogether, 50 years’ experience in the management of the Island’s best tea plantations. He was plantation manager for a large group of British and – after nationalisation – state-owned plantations.
Later he was regional manager in charge of 100,000 acres of the best tea lands in the country, in Nuwara Eliya.
He currently owns Handunugoda Estate, Tittagalla, Ahangama, which produces the world famous virgin white tea.
He is the Deputy Chairman of Kahawatte Plantations, which belongs to the Dilmah Tea company Kahawatte and includes 20,000 hectares of tea and rubber plantations.
Herman Gunaratne is the author of five books: Plantation Raj, For a Sovereign State, Tortured Island, Suicide Club (which was shortlisted for the 2010 Gratiaen Prize, now in its fifth reprint) and God’s Secret Agent.
