The 2018 Fairway Galle Literary Festival is delighted to welcome author Shankari Chandran.

Shankari Chandran is thriller writer and a lawyer who was born and raised in Australia.

Shankari worked in the field of social justice in London where she was responsible for projects in over 30 countries ranging from ensuring representation for detainees in Guantanamo Bay to training lawyers in Rwanda to advising UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

She published her first novel in 2017 Song of the Sun God, with Perera-Hussein. The novel follows a Sri Lankan couple who get married on the eve of Independence in 1946. Arranged in marriage, they learn to love each other and protect their growing family, against the backdrop of increasing ethnic tension.

Her second book, The Barrier (2017), is a thriller set in a world plagued by disease and religious wars.

She writes about motherhood, multiculturalism and parenting on her blog.
