2017 Fairway Galle Literary Festival Children's Programme - sponsored by MAS Holdings.

The 2017 MAS Galle Children’s Programme, has a super-cool, 2-day Mini Lit Fest scheduled on Saturday, Jan 14 and Sunday Jan 15, at the Thomas Gall School, to once again engage our younger festival-goers in a fun series of activities and workshops.

Events will be hosted by several of the award-winning participants from the main 2017 Galle Literary Festival ensuring a day full of fun-filled activities for budding learners.

The programme is tailored to 3 individual age groups:

  • 5-7 years.
  • 8-11 years.
  • 12-14 years.

The events will include storyboarding, performance poetry, theatre, writing songs, drawing comics and even demystifying illusions and magic tricks, along with yummy refreshments and a delicious lunch served during the breaks.

Create a Comic with Reinhard Kleist

Moms and dads, you must have heard of The Avengers or at least Superman by now, right? Well, trust us when we say that your kids have! Now they get the chance to learn how to create their first comic book with award winning graphic novel illustrator Reinhard Kleist, where he will workshop the step by step development and illustration of a story about a beach-dwelling hero.


Street Art with Charles Uzzell Edwards

2017 FGLF Children's Programme Participant - Charles Uzzell Edwards aka Pure Evil

Street Art … better known by the cool kids as Graffiti, will be taught by a master of the art-form, Charles Uzzell Edwards. His workshops for the kids will include learning how to create his iconic street art animals, street art lettering, making stencils, using paints, creating tags, bubble letters and more for each different age group.


Rhythm and Rhyme with Ramsay

Entertaining and fun-filled songwriting workshops await kids and teens where they will learn how to write a songs which expresses their individual creativity, rhyming and singing talents all at once … Watch out Adele!


Poetry Writing, Music and Games with Jemima Foxtrot

2017 FGLF Children's Programme Participant - Jemima Foxtrot.

Acclaimed British performance poet Jemima Foxtrot will teach your kids how to write the recipe of their name! Curious? … We would hope so! A game driven worksop that teaches how to write a acrostic poem around – your name. For the teenagers, Jemima will use their favorite pop songs to teach them how ‘their music’ can inspire their own poetry.


Performance Poetry with Luke Wright

Especially for the teens with something to say … wordsmith and performance poet extrodinaire Luke Wright will teach techniques of how to write poems that are punchy, powerful and sound “too cool for school”! At his workshop students will write a poem and yes … perform it like a pro!


Memory Poetry and Storyboarding with Malika Booker.

Our life journey is our memories, Malika Booker will teach how to create a map of those memories and bring your personal poetry to life. The youngsters will also learn to use creative drawing as a tool to build and plan their own stories.


Create Your Own Characters with Anita Nair.

A fun workshop where our young literati will create their own characters with word and line guided by Anita Nair, recipient of the Central Sahitya Akademi award for her contribution to Children’s Literature in 2013, whose books have been translated into 30 languages.

Preeti Vyas is going to introduce you to Samaira, little chocolate-coloured little girl who loves colours.
