Sanjiva Wijesinha

Speaker

Dr Sanjiva Wijesinha has lived and worked in many parts of the world – having been at various times an army officer, a paediatric surgeon, a family physician and even a member of UNESCO’s 1990 expedition that traced the ancient maritime silk routes of the Indian Ocean.

His wide experience of life and times has influenced his writing career – from his first book Health for Busy People to three collections of short stories Friends, Tales from my Island and Not Our War plus a travelogue Strangers on the Camino about his journey with his son along an ancient pilgrim trail in Spain.

His latest book Sri Lanka, Serendib and the Silk Road of the Sea weaves together information about this island’s ancient harbours, her links to other lands around the Indian Ocean and the seagoing craft that connected these societies – and engagingly tells the fascinating story of Sri Lanka’s important role as a link between East and West on the Maritime Silk Road.
