Irushi is an award-winning artist, animator, and educator based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Her work combines storytelling, illustration, and animation to explore themes such as gender, health, the environment, and climate change. She is best known for her award-winning animated series, Animate Her (2019-2022), that celebrates the lives of seven exceptional Sri Lankan women, from a marine biologist to a traditional dancer.
Her films have been screened at several international festivals and have won multiple awards, including the Best National Short Film award at the 2022 Jaffna International Cinema Festival. As an illustrator, her work has been published by Room to Read and UNICEF Sri Lanka.
Irushi regularly conducts workshops on storytelling through illustration and animation and is currently a lecturer at the Academy of Design (AOD) in Colombo. She recently completed her Master’s in Animation at the Royal College of Art in London, as a Chevening scholar.
