Amita Arudpragasam is an independent writer, researcher and policy analyst. She is interested in economics, politics, gender, climate and ethnic identity. She has written for and provided political-economy analysis for several global media outlets. Amita has held a range of roles in government, media and think tanks. She was a senior assistant editor at Himal Southasian magazine, the Chief of Staff to Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, and Head of Research and Policy at Sri Lanka’s Secretariat for Coordinating Reconciliation Mechanisms. Amita founded and currently manages a language school that teaches Tamil to adult English speakers. She is producing and directing a documentary on Climate Emergency in Sri Lanka’s North as a Pulitzer Center grantee. Amita completed her AB in English Literature at Princeton University in 2012 and her MPP at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government in 2018.
