Dr. Asoka de Zoysa had his training at the Institut für indische Philologie und Kunstgeschichte Berlin, to read Sanskrit, Pali and hybrid-Hindi texts and interpret the art of India and the Himalayan region. His doctoral thesis, Blutrünstige Braminen am heiligen Strome, published in Frankfurt in 1997, analyses how India was represented in the 18th and 19th century popular genres of opera and theatre of Germany, France and England. After his MA in Indology and Germanisitik, he was a member of the Educational Service at Museum für Indische Kunst in Berlin, arranging guided tours and lectures in the Museum of Indian Art and special exhibitions. Asoka was a member of the University of Kelaniya’s Department of Modern Languages from 1997-2021, where he was Professor of German Studies and Director of the Samkathana Research Centre. After retirement, he is now German teacher at the Colombo International School and conducts Diversity Walks in Colombo.
