Dr Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai is known to enchant audiences who attend her events with her captivating storytelling and insights into Vietnamese history and culture. Born and raised in Vietnam, she is an award-winning writer in Vietnamese and English, author of 12 books of fiction, poetry and non-fiction. She has received some of Vietnam’s top literary prizes, including Poetry of the Year 2010 Award from the Hanoi Writers Association. Her two novels in English, The Mountains Sing and Dust Child, are both international bestsellers and have been honoured with Runner-up for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize, the PEN Oakland/Josephine Miles Literary Award, the International Book Awards, the BookBrowse Best Debut Award, and the Lannan Literary Fellowship in Fiction. Her writing has been translated into more than 25 languages. Forbes Vietnam named her as one of 20 inspiring women of 2021. She has a PhD in Creative Writing.
