We are delighted to welcome the internationally acclaimed fusion band Chirkutt to the 2018 Fairway Galle Literary Festival (Sponsored by the High Commission of Bangladesh).

Chirkutt is an epic fusion band from Bangladesh who carved out a name for themselves among scores of music lovers of Bangladesh and elsewhere with their unique, energetic live performances and powerful lyrics of love, peace and aspirations.

They are the first Bangladeshi Band to have performed at the prestigious ‘South by Southwest’ Music Festival in Austin, USA (SXSW 2016) that was inaugurated by former President Barak Obama and ex-first lady Michelle Obama.

Chirkutt’s fame has transcended the borders of Bangladesh and reached many foreign shores. The band has performed at various reputed international music festivals for years.

Chirkutt had the rare honour of performing at the prestigious Indian President House Concert 2014, the India Music Week 2012 (where 50 bands/Artists of 17 countries participated) and the Jaffna Music Festival, Sri Lanka 2013 (with more than twenty international artists from Norway, Brazil, Palestine, India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh).

Through these, they represented new dimensions of Bangladeshi band music to critical acclaim. They completed their tour of Norway with Norwegian rockers Casa Murilo in late 2013 – which is still a most cherished experience of the Band.

The Band also performed at the South Asian Band Festival 2014 (Delhi, India), North Bengal Festival (Siliguri, India) 2015, 2016, 2017, the Agartala Concert (India). On their first grand tour of the USA, they performed at UT Dallas, York College, New York and various other venues to great acclaim.

Most recently, they completed their second tour of the USA, where they performed at various events, including at the International Day and the Russian House Stages of SXSW 2016, Austin, Texas, and at various other shows in Florida, New York and Atlanta.

They also participated in the production of an unique Bangla-Spanish collaborative project with Grammy Award-winning producer Johan Alcover in New York.

Chirkutt won the SAARC International Film Festival award for the Best Background Score in Sri Lanka.

Their international music video ‘Ontore Bahire’ won the Best Official Latino Award 2016 in USA. They were also the winners of Citycell-Channel I Music Awards 2015, and RTV Best Band Award 2012.
