Nayomi Munaweera

The 2018 Fairway Galle Literary Festival is delighted to welcome back author Nayomi Munaweera.

Nayomi Munaweera is a Sri Lankan-American writer whose first novel, Island of a Thousand Mirrors (2012), explored issues of abandonment, betrayal and unspeakable violence in the lives of two young Sri Lankan girls – one Sinhalese, one Tamil.

The book won the “Commonwealth Book Prize” for the Asian Region in 2013, was short-listed for the “Northern California Book Award”, long-listed for the “Man Asia Prize”, long listed for the “International DUBLIN Literary Award” and short listed for the “DSC Prize for South Asian Literature”.

Nayomi is also the winner of the State Literary Award for the best English novel in 2017.

Her second novel is What Lies Between Us (2016), the confession of a woman driven by the demons of her past to commit a single and possibly unforgivable crime.
