We are delighted to welcome Sri Lanka’s leading environmental architect Sunela Jayewardene to the 2018 Fairway Galle Literary Festival.

Recognized as ‘Sri Lanka’s leading environmental architect’ (Time, March 2007; India Today, 2008), Sunela Jayewardene’s award-winning projects include Jetwing Vil Uyana, Colombo Courtyard, Rainforest Ecolodge, Havelock Bungalow and Jetwing Kaduruketha, in addition to over 75 private homes.

She consults on environmental design and sustainable development for several international clients and the Government of Sri Lanka with environmental innovation being a central feature of her work.

She has been selected as a ‘Woman of Achievement’ by Zonta International 2014, as one of the ‘50 Most Powerful Women in Sri Lanka’ by Echelon 2013 and 2014 and awarded for ‘Outstanding Contribution as a Woman of Sri Lanka’ by Equal Ground 2007.

She is a founding Trustee and first Chairperson of the Federation of Environmental Organizations of Sri Lanka and a founding Trustee of the Citizen’s Initiative Trust Fund, which worked in conflict zones in post-war Sri Lanka.

She is also the author of the “The Line of Lanka”, “Myths and Memories of an Island” – a historical travelogue that explores Sri Lanka’s more obscure legends and myths.

She lives in Colombo and is inspired by the cultural traditions and remote landscapes of Sri Lanka.
