Brigid Keenan is a fashion, travel and non-fiction author and journalist. She was born in Bombay, India in 1939, where her father was an officer in the British Indian Army during the Raj. She is married to diplomat and 3 time ambassador, Alan Waddams.

Brigid began her career in fashion journalism in 1959 with the Daily Express and went on to become an editor on the legendary Nova magazine (a British publication that has been described as “a politically radical, beautifully designed, intellectual women’s magazine), the Observer and the Sunday Times.

She has published two fashion histories, ‘The Women We Wanted to look Like’ (1977) and ‘Dior in Vogue’ (1981),

Her following books focused on travel – ‘Travels in Kashmir’ (1989) and ‘Damascus: Hidden Treasures of the Old City’ (2001).

She is also the author of the bestselling ‘Diplomatic Baggage’ (2005), Keenan’s account of life as a diplomat’s “trailing spouse”, and its sequel, ‘Packing Up’ (2014).

Her most recent book, ‘Full Marks for Trying: An Unlikely Journey from the Raj to the Rag Trade’ (2016), is a candid and wickedly funny memoir of her childhood in India and her days as a young fashion editor at the dawn of the 60’s, when London was the hub of the fashion world.

She is a founding board member of the Palestine Festival of Literature and is currently the Fashion Editor of Oldie magazine.
