We are delighted to welcome Kishani Jayasinghe to the 2017 Fairway Galle Literary Festival!
Sri Lankan British soprano Kishani Jayasinghe was a member of the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme at the Royal Opera House (2006-2008).
She has since sung with the Classical Opera Company (Sadler’s Wells/Buxton Festival) and at the Wexford Festival. Kishani created the role of Nafisa in Edward Rushton’s new opera Barbur in London, which premiered in Zurich, and then performed in Basil, St Gallen and London, followed by a UK tour.
Debuting at the Royal Opera as Chloë, in The Queen of Spades, Kishani also sang at Buckingham Palace for Prince Charles’ 60th birthday celebrations.
Kishani Jayasinghe obtained a LLB (2001) and LLM in International Commercial Law (2002) from the University of Nottingham and completed her Operatic training at the Royal Academy of Music, where she was recently awarded an Associateship.
She has won top prizes in International Vocal Competitions in Italy, Spain, France, Finland, Holland and Turkey.
She is also an Associate of the Classical Opera Company; an Alumni Laureate of the University of Nottingham; Zonta’s Woman of Achievement for the Performing Arts (2010) and the Asian Woman of Achievement for Art and Culture in the UK.
