Michael Fehr

We are very excited to welcome Swiss author Michael Fehr to the 2017 Fairway Galle Literary Festival. (Sponsored by the Swiss Embassy).

Michael Fehr was born in 1982 and grew up in Muri, near Bern (Switzerland).

He studied at the Swiss Institute for Literature and the Bern Arts College from 2007 – 2012, where he gained his Master degree in Contemporary Arts Practice.

Fehr suffers from juvenile macular degeneration , low vision, which compels him to create his works by dictation, creating a unique oeuvre of incomparable poetical and musical qualities, thus referring to himself as being “A Narrator” – A writer who does not write.

In 2013, he published his first work of fiction ‘Kurz vor der Erlösung’ (On the Verge of Salvation), which was followed 2 years later by his second work ‘Simeliberg’ a literary thriller, which won the Kelag Prize at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in 2014.

  • 2014 Kelag Prize at the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition.
  • 2015 Literature Prize of the Canton Berne.
  • 2015 Bayern 2 Puns Prize.

Michael is also a storyteller and supports ‘Babelsprech’ and ‘Treibhaus’, two initiatives to promote young German speaking poetry and literature.
