2017 Fairway Galle Literary Festival welcomes author Sunjeev Sahota.

Sunjeev Sahota was born in 1981 in Derbyshire and is the author of ‘Ours are the Streets‘ (2011) and ‘The Year of the Runaways‘ (2015), which was shortlisted for The Man Booker Prize 2015 and the International Dylan Thomas Prize in 2016.

The Year of the Runaways by Sunjeev Sahota.

‘The Year of the Runaways’ won the Encore Award, for the most outstanding 2nd novel of the year, and the South Bank Sky Arts Award for literature.

“Even as waves of refugees fleeing the war in Syria have created an urgent world crisis, many immigrants who have already made it to Europe have been grappling with prejudice, poverty and unemployment. No recent novel does a more powerful job of capturing the day-to-day lives of such immigrants than Sunjeev Sahota’s second book, “The Year of the Runaways,” which was shortlisted for the 2015 Man Booker prize.” – Michiko Kakutani, New York Times.

Sunjeev is also a Granta Best Young British Novelist and the first Writer in Residence at Leeds Beckett University.

He lives in Sheffield with his wife and two children.
