2017 FGLF Event: The Craft of Fiction Writing with CATHERINE BUSH, SUNJEEV SAHOTA and SHYAM SELVADURAI.

Date: Saturday, January 14 2017.

Time: 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.
Location: Hall de Galle, Galle Fort.

During this illuminating panel, three expert fiction writers will reveal their craft secrets and strategies in writing fiction.

Catherine Bush teaches creative writing in Canada’s premier MFA Creative Writing programme. She will, in the context of her teaching and her own work, speak about how craft is learnt and the obstacles she and her students face in writing.

Sunjeev Sahota will reveal some of the things he learnt as a starting writer and how his craft changed in his second book.

Shyam Selvadurai, also a teacher of creative writing and an author of 4 novels, will talk about how craft influences his work and teaching.

Through questions posed by Ashok Ferrey, a fiction writer himself, these writers will discuss character, point of view, plot, dialogue, the strategic use of detail and other aspects of craft. They will each read for a few minutes to illustrate some aspect of craft in their own work.

Catherine Bush’s visit is sponsored by the Canada Council for the Arts. Sunjeev Sahota’s travel is sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines.
