This promises to be a lively session. It brings together two wonderful female British poets working in different, but complementary traditions.
Sophie will read from her ‘Marrying the Ugly Millionaire’ which contains her previous five volumes of poetry, one of which was shortlisted for the 2007 T.S. Eliot Award. Her work explores and celebrates the complex interactions and strong feelings involved in everyday experiences.
Malika, one of Britain’s best spoken word poets, will ignite our minds with her pulsing rhythms and her subject matter, which looks at what it means to be a contemporary black woman in Britain and also explores her Caribbean heritage.
And, for this final Tea and Poetry, Master Pastry Chef Jason Licker will provide another unique set of pastries, tarts and sandwiches.
Malika Booker is sponsored by the British Council. Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas is happy to be associated with Jason Licker’s visit to the Festival. Jetwing Hotels is happy to be associated with Sophie Hannah’s visit to the Festival. Her travel is sponsored by Sri Lankan Airlines.
