Rashmika Mandawala is a writer and a translator. His first book, Shukran Qatar, was a gripping memoir about the life of Sri Lankan workers in the Middle East. In fact, it was the very first memoir written in Sinhala about workers in the Middle East and their lifestyle. He then published a Sinhala translation of 2018 winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature, Olga Tokarczuk’s novel Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of The Dead, which was highly appreciated by both critics and the wider readership. In 2021, one of Rashmika’s short stories was shortlisted for the Creators of Justice Literary Award, organised by the International Human Rights Art Festival in New York. He was nominated for Sri Lanka’s State Literary Award for Best Translation in 2022. He is also a committee member of the Emerging Translators Network, UK.
