Rosanna Flamer-Caldera is the founder and Executive Director of EQUAL GROUND (2004-2024), the oldest LGBTIQ advocacy organisation pursuing LGBTIQ rights as part of the larger Human Rights framework in Sri Lanka. She served 2 terms as Co-Secretary General of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex Association (2003-2008) and is the co-founder and former Chair of the Commonwealth Equality Network (2015-2022), a broad network of LGBTIQ organisations within the Commonwealth.
In 2018, Rosanna was instrumental in filing the first case of its kind at the UN CEDAW committee, challenging the discriminatory laws in her country which criminalise consenting adult same sex sexual relationships between women. In 2017, she received the Zonta award for Social Impact and in November 2022, she received the APCOM Community Hero award for her work for the LGBTIQ community in Sri Lanka. In April 2024, Rosanna was listed among TIME magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2024.
